Cool. I'm in the market for a vintage Hamilton 992.
Much like the Elgin in photo 2nd from bottom on the right.
It was the watch that gave me the bug in my youth.

WOW! You were a pocket watch guy Jeffrey? Very cool! I love pocket watches but the only time I'd ever wear one is with jeans.

Duff, other than scrubs, aren't jeans the only other thing you wear? I just can't see you in khakis.

Yep - I was.
Didn't know how much of a watch nut I was at the time.
Pocket Watches, Hand Held Stop Watches, you name it.
The Hamilton was owned by a man that lived with my Grandparents (roomer).
He was old retired railroad porter. The watch was willed to me when he died.
But was stolen by another member of the family (drugs) - never saw it again.
Used to just marvel at the movement finishing.

Negatory.
Tried a couple Stuhrlings - Junk - Sent them back.
Realized I should just get what I really want - and go to the source.
Replace it with the closest I can find to what I recall.
Probably room for 2 in the collection - gold being first, then silver.

Sounds nice Man! I'll find a pocket watch one day. I'd like an old Hamilton or Elgin.

Re: Hey Ron, this is for you.
thanks Tim, great looking watches! I seem to be looking at pocket watches more than watches the last couple of months.
many are removing the cases for the gold and selling off the movements and dials.
Jeffrey, I would like a 992 and a 950 someday. I was hoping to build a watch with a 4992b with the center seconds that hacks, but the movement is so large I think it would not look great on the wrist and a case might be impossible to locate.
I met up with Koimaster, Alain yesterday and opened up his Stowa pocket watch and was impressed with the movement, I'm going to have to see if will fit in a case.

Re: Hey Ron, this is for you.
I've got a handful of pocket watches and none of them work like they should, have no idea if they are anything special or just junk! Should take a few pics and send them to Ron! BTW Duff i picture you if not working in jeans or butt naked up a palm tree!

Trev,
I've been reluctant, given the tenor of this thread, to ask you what that is in your pocket. Now I know its just a watch. Whew!
