2 October WRUW
Watching Petit Le Mans, all 10 hours/1000 miles of the race.
And will probably keep it on for dinner out.

Hey Tim, what is the deal with that Porsche hybrid racecar? I saw a quick news clip on it the other day.

It's a KERS type system (kinetic energy recovery system), where the recovered energy is stored in a flywheel mechanism as opposed to batteries. The energy then drives the front wheels, effectively nmaking it all-wheel drive. The energy is then controlled by the driver, through a paddle near the steering wheel, using it at his discression.
It was run yesterday as an "exhibition" as it currently does not fit into any ALMS/ACO sanctioned class. I'd imagine by 2012 it will be, as this form of racing really is the leading edge of automotive technologies. This car has run a few 24 hour ("run-what-you-brung" open type rules). Porsche will be using a system similar to this on their road cars.
The cars that finished first through third overall at Road Atlanta last night, are diesel powered. The ALMS uses 5 different types of fuels.
Sorry you asked, uh?
