I found this flow chart while poking around the web. It shows the origination of the Seiko divers with the 6217-8000 series diver and goes through the professional divers (MM) and the 150m divers through the 6306/6309. Seiko Divers - Scratching The Surface

. The first divers watch from Seiko, 6217-800x a.k.a. 62MAS, emerged in 1965. Since then there has been a gazillion of different models using all kinds of movements (auto, quartz, kinetic, kinetic direct drive, solar, spring drive) and spanning from entry level models to Professional ones. The family tree of Seiko Divers is scattered, to say the least, but the below picture from Harry Teicher, Denmark puts the light on the, IMHO, most interesting ones.

Seiko has done with the dive watch, what Ford has done recently with the Mustang.

The did a great job of bringing real dive watches to the masses. I've got several and they're rock solid. Wish that chart would be updated but its still a great historical reference.
